"Dr. Roberts you're needed in the conference room"
The tall man who until then had been typing furiously at his computer, held up his wrist, and started speaking to what would normally appear to be an everyday wrist watch. "Cant this wait?!? I'm in the middle of something important."
The wrist watch responded in an almost monotone female voice "Mr. Adams has specifically requested that you are to be there at 1:30 pm which gives you 6 minutes, and 38 seconds to get to the conference hall. You personally scheduled this in your daily planner."
Andrew Roberts Sighed."You know I made one fatal error in your programming P.A.I.G.E. I didn't program an ounce of sympathy into your general functions."
P.A.I.G.E.'S tiny monitor glowed yellow, her version of a smirk then forming in to humorous pink said "you know you could've just named me Karen and gave me a higher voice, then would you be satisfied?"
Andrew glared at the monitor, "oh yeah but I put WAY too much humor in there." P.A.I.G.E. had surprised even him when she had picked up on his crush on the secretary in the main office. She had long blond hair she always kept in a pony tail, and a squeaky voice that most seemed to think was weird, but he could not get enough of it. He hadn't programmed P.A.I.G.E. to pick up on emotions but give a self teaching artificially intelligent being with a processor that worked at 2/3's the speed of light a week or 2, and it tends to notice allot of stuff that humans don't. Luckily she knew how to keep a secret... somehow.
When he first started his work in AI development he had never imagined that he would ever create something as intelligent and adaptable as his own Portable Artificial Intelligence Guide Equipment. P.A.I.G.E. had gained what he could only guess was an actual human will, even though he had designed virtually every aspect of the super computer processer, and her extreme intelligence software, and just about every other detail that went into her very being, she had grown into what seemed to be a functional Human personality. Even though her creation was announced to the world, and Dr. Roberts had become known as the new Einstein,-a title he often shrugged away- only a few select people knew about how complex P.A.I.G.E. really was.
Andrew walked into the conference room, and as usual P.A.I.G.E. did a quick scan of the room using video, audio, thermal, and even sonar sensors installed in the hardware of the watch, which was just a unit that was synchronized to the processer in the lab up in Washington during this period her monitor flashed between green and black. After about 2 and a half seconds, she announced, "room approximately 13 feet by 21 feet, with a 9 ½ foot height, it is currently 72% Fahrenheit, and there are 14 people in the room, Mr. Adams, Dr. Roberts, and Greg are in my systems database already, Data on the remaining Guests has been stored. No weapons or dangerous materials present."
Half of the occupants of those unnamed stared speechless at the wrist watch that had just reported, and the other half stood up and clapped, P.A.I.G.E. was a bright yellow, and Andrew mumbled under his breath "show off" which was true. Most of everyone assumed that he had programmed her to make these reports when entering a room, but she had started doing it herself, just in case people didn't notice her the moment they entered a room.
Greg was the only one who was not paying attention to Dr. Roberts or P.A.I.G.E. He was holding a small black plastic disk that was projecting a 2 dimensional hologram floating above it. Greg who was only 19 had already graduated from an ivy league college, after skipping several grades as a kid, he was bound to be one heck of a scientist, with his passion, intelligence and drive, Andrew saw this potential from his very first meeting with Greg when Greg had asked to be his apprentice, claiming "I might be second best, but might as well learn from the very best." The kid had no shame in being a little conceited, but he never rubbed it in people's faces.
As usual what he was watching was Anime. Andrew had no idea what Greg liked about that, the fad had nearly died off over half a century before. Back in the year 2019 when holograms were first released to the public, everyone wanted to watch those tasteless dramas and sitcoms with 3-d angles. Of course being interested in outdated fads wasn't something Dr. Roberts was innocent of, Rock and roll was supposedly "dead" according to every music critic in the business, but Dr. Roberts couldn't resist the temptation, and spent a great deal of time with headphones in his own ears.
But P.A.I.G.E. being devious had found a way to get even Greg's attention, she could rearrange the pixels in any video, or image, and add and remove sound bytes with ease, she tracked the IP of Greg's projector and suddenly a girl with huge boobs, long pink hair, and a tight uniform that matched those of the other characters appeared on the hologram screen, in the exact same art style as the rest, in a sexy pose she suddenly said, Greg Its time for the conference. Greg laughed, and pressed 3 buttons on the disk, and turned it off, he then removed 2 much smaller disks with covers from his ears, and placed them on the magnetic projector and put in his pocket.
Meanwhile Dr. Roberts had sat down and let Mr. Adams begin the meeting, Andrew and him were friends as well as partners, if not for Mr. Adams support, Andrew would have never been able to afford to do a quarter of what he did, while others found the investment illogical, and too dangerous 10 years ago, he now rejected the same ones on an almost daily basis, if there was anyone he trusted it was Jonathon Adams and that was final. But, the guy does tend to carry on a lot thought Andrew as he sat through the conference, waiting for his turn to speak.
